J.D.Duncan

J.D. Duncan, keyboardist extraordinaire, began playing music at the age of five by playing along with bands performing on television variety shows. Although classically trained, he preferred the popular music of the day and his influences included Led Zeppelin, Hendrix, Cream, the Doors and many Motown Artists. By the age of thirteen (and requiring a legal chaperone for most of his gigs), he began performing professionally at clubs and venues throughout Texas and Oklahoma. J.D.‘s band became regionally known by winning numerous battle of the bands competitions and performing at all the area’s major venues.

J.D. was an early experimenter with Synthesizers, and  before he was twenty J.D. was hired by ARP Synthesizers as an International Product Specialist and Ambassador. This allowed J.D. to rub shoulders with most of the legendary artists of the era, and within a year J.D. was living in California and touring with R&B artist Rick James, as well as performing and recording with Jazz legends Shelly Mann, Louie Belleson and Leroy Vinegar.

For the next fifteen years J.D.’s tour circuit took him to every major U.S. and European city as well as throughout Asia, performing and recording with a number of Grammy Award winning musicians in all genres of music. When J.D. was not on the road he was anchoring studio recording sessions for A&M Records and recording with an incredible array of major artists.
J.D. Duncan has toured, recorded and performed with R&B greats Donna Summer, Tina Turner, and Lou Rawls; Blues legends like Buddy Guy, Walter Trout and Taj Mahal; Jazz giants Sarah Vaughn, Buddy Rich, Pearl Bailey and Manhattan Transfer; and if that were not enough, even The Osmonds, Roger Miller and Debbie Reynolds. The versatility of J.D.’s talent is exemplified by variety. J.D. readily admits, “I need to play all kinds of musical genres so that nothing gets too worn.”

After 25 years at the forefront of the music scene J.D. Duncan relocated to Sedona where he could relax and enjoy the fruits of his successful career. J.D. kept his “chops” up by appearing at the acclaimed Enchantment resort where he entertained international and celebrity clients for a number of years and by occasionally hitting the road for a short tour or recording session when the mood would strike him.

As a core member of “The Wicked Koalition” J.D. is once again in his element - As J.D. says, ”I like music with no rules. I like stuff that makes me feel alive - something that has a really good groove and without harmonic restrictions”. Thanks, J.D. - your music helps us feel alive too!
